The Rhyme (formerly Ch.65 on XM Radio) has been discontinued as a result of the merger with Sirius. Backspin (formerly ch.43 on Sirius) also did not make the cut. This leaves the merged company with absolutely NO classic hip hop channel. The genre and the channel will be greatly missed by us here at Subsoniq (this also means the end of Subsoniq Classix).

Subsoniq Classix

As part of the progressive hip-hop movement on XM, Subsoniq Classix features progressive hip-hop from the early ’90s through the early 2000 era. These are joints that helped build the foundation for the progressive sounds we hear today. Subsoniq Classix this week features a dope set from Baltimore’s DJ Impulse (myspace.com/impulsetheturntablist ). KB and Doc host Subsoniq Classix this week. No particular theme, no interview, just the fellas picking out some progressive hip hop from the 90s and early 2000s. Yauch speaks on the pressures young NBA/college recruited basketball players face, his history in film in relation to Beastie Boy videos and documentaries, the history of the legendary Rucker Park in Harlem, and why he chose such a diverse soundtrack for the film ranging from hip-hop, to funk, to soul, and classic beat breaks.
