The Foreign Exchange on Subsoniq this week

Monday, December 1st, 2008

Hip Hop Nation (ch.67 on XM, ch.40 on Sirius, Direct TV ch.847) - Sunday (12/7) 10pm et

When you talk about progressive artists, Phonte and Nicolay stand at the top of our list here on Subsoniq. From their first hip hop album “Connected” in 2004, to their latest release in 2008 with “Leave It All Behind” (an album that surprised many as it’s a progressive soul album), the transition was natural and the result is still amazing. Join K-Murdock and KB as they chop it up with The Foreign Exchange! Topics covered include: How they would describe the feel of the new album, Radiohead vs. Coldplay, what would have happened if Phonte was the Democratic presidential candidate, and some behind the scenes “liner notes” in relation to how certain tracks came about/were created or inspired. Its a show not to be missed, this week on Subsoniq.

Hip Hop Break from the Holiday Chaos

Monday, December 1st, 2008

Hip Hop Nation (ch.67 on XM, ch.40 on Sirius, Direct TV ch.847) - Sunday (12/14) 10pm et

With the holiday craze in full swing, we figured we would take this week’s show as an opportunity to drop all the chaos and just play some straight ahead dope hip hop. KB and Raw Poetic at the helm this week as the show features new joints from Common, Black Milk, Crown City Rockers, Dujeous, Evidence, Scarface, and tons more.

*On Deck for 12/21 and 12/28 will be Subsoniq’s annual “year in review”, featuring both “the best progressive hip hop songs + albums of 2008″*

LA’s own DJ Z-Trip comes through Subsoniq this week to chop it up with KB and Sheils (of Pitch Control). Topics covered include how to make the airport your home, a possible album collaboration with instrumental metal/dub group “The Dub Trio”, what some of Z-Trip’s biggest challenges were (in terms of playing venues, gigs, and crowds), and just how involved he was with the Obama campaign. After a long weekend of turkey and heavy drinking, avoid the family and kick it with Subsoniq and Z-Trip this Sunday night.

R.I.P. The Rhyme

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

The Rhyme (formerly Ch.65 on XM Radio) has been discontinued as a result of the merger with Sirius. Backspin (formerly ch.43 on Sirius) also did not make the cut. This leaves the merged company with absolutely NO classic hip hop channel. The genre and the channel will be greatly missed by us here at Subsoniq (this also means the end of Subsoniq Classix).

If interested, below is a link for a petition started by subscribers to help reinstate The Rhyme and RAW.

Monday 11/10 10pm et, Tuesday 11/11 2pm et on (XMU ch.43, Direct TV 843)

How did Subsoniq start? Whose idea was it to include a progressive hip hop show on satellite radio? Who were the original hosts? Which channel originally threw major support behind the show and got it on the satellite platform? What early artists showed love to the show and helped the show get its feet? What role did it play in creating Panacea? All of this and much more are answered in this week’s show!  Subsoniq welcomes one of the original creators of show (Josh aka J Kannizle) into the studio for an in-depth look at the history of the show, the music it supports, and what the future holds. Check it out this week exclusively on XMU (ch.43, Direct TV 843)!
