The History of Subsoniq

How did Subsoniq start? Whose idea was it to include a progressive hip hop show on satellite radio? Who were the original hosts? Subsoniq - Morning Drive Time!!!

No you don’t have to pinch yourself, or look out the window to see if pigs are flying……Subsoniq is officially in Drive Time!! Many thanks to the good people at RAW (Leo G and Mz Kitti) who have not only provided Subsoniq with a home for the past couple years but have now have given us the opportunity to have a Drive Time slot! As you may know, Funkregulata Celo has joined the RAW family and will be feautured Monday-Thursday nights from 9pm-1am (be sure to check out the show, Celo is a dope mixer!) As a result of this addition to the RAW family,  Subsoniq now has a new Tuesday morning slot from 9am - 11am et! Subsoniq also retains its Sunday nigtht slot from 9pm - 11pm et. Be sure to check us out at our new time and show some love to RAW for all the support over the years.   - KB & Doc

13 tracks… features from our backing band, RPM’s guitarist and keyboard player as well as some international collabos… BUT essentially just myself and Raw P doing what we do.

The artwork is furnished by Raw P’s cousin/emcee Pointblank who also guested on “The Scenic Route” (Square 1). We will be doing a few shows before year’s end but coming HARD top of 2009 on some tours and whatnot. In the meantime, enjoy the art and keep checking here for updates and treats ya dig, lol.

This week longtime Native Tongue affiliate and founding member of A Tribe Called Quest, Q-Tip, stops through Subsoniq to chop it up with Doc and KB! He is also joined by fellow Native Tongue lady Monie Love, as they speak on the current VH1 Hip Hop Honors. Tip also gives his thoughts on what has happened to the diversity in hip hop, gives the definitive answer on if Tribe will get back together, his memories and thoughts on the late great J Dilla, and what we can expect from his newest album “The Renaissance” dropping on election day!

Above is a short documentary (airing on Current TV) on the MPC by Gabe Uhr. It features K-Murdock (of Panacea and Subsoniq), Damu (of Y Society), and Patrick Fritz (guitarist for Panacea and RPM). The short video is narrated by Raw Poetic (emcee of Panacea, and guest host of Subsoniq)

“The MPC has moved from the studio to the stage and all kinds of performers, from rockers to rappers to classicly trained musicians, are utilizing its beat making abilities. One MC will take us through the MPC transformation, as we see, hear and talk to different kind of musicians, and even non-musicians, who are making this technology the oldest newest trend in music making.”

As part of the part of the progressive hip-hop movement on XM, Subsoniq Classix features progressive hip-hop from the early ’90s through the early 2000 era. These are joints that helped build the foundation for the progressive sounds we hear today.
